FREEDIVING WETSUIT
Over recent years, Elios Sub has consolidated its experience in the production of apnea freediving wetsuits, intended for professionals and not only for dynamic and static apnea activities.
Elios designs wetsuits for apnea freediving in collaboration with the greatest modern divers.
Carlos Coste (photo), Sebastian Murat and Topi Lintukangas are only some of the colourful names that have collaborated in the design of the best wetsuits on the market.
The wetsuits made by Elios are also specially designed for monofin diving (arms stretched above the head and relaxed body), and are made with the best materials on the market: Yamamoto 45, Heiwa, NJN, Misuzu, Rubatex, Sheico, Dan yu, etc…
MAIN FEATURES OF WETSUITS FOR FREEDIVING
- extremely simple and streamlined design for maximum hydrodynamic effect
- anatomic cut not “preformed” to improve close-fit to each movement of the body
- high level finishing for higher resistance e and precision of glue joints
- rubber backings on the inner side (only for unlined wetsuits) for a perfect tightness and an improved resistance against rips
Every single point of the wetsuit is carefully manufactured in detail in order to obtain the best performance.
Elios wetsuits have been developed to meet the different requirements of different dives:
STATIC APNEA: an indoor discipline that usually takes place in a swimming pool, the wetsuits required are very thin and do not have high hydrodynamics.
DYNAMIC APNEA : occurs mainly in open water like the sea or a lake, with or without equipment such as fins or monofin. For dynamic apnea greater thicknesses are offered according to the temperature of the water, as well as materials with high hydrodynamics, to improve penetration into the water.
DEEP APNEA: for deep diving activities wetsuits will be required that can guarantee good elastic resistance to compression, in addition to materials that generate less friction, less resistance and therefore more speed. For this type of diving we recommend our most innovative materials.
WETSUIT FOR APNEIST
SMOOTHSKIN WETSUITS
The best wetsuit for a free-diver should be:
- smooth on the external surface (maximum hydrodynamic effect)
- superelastic (ease of movement)
- cextremely warm (optimum neoprene)
- anatomic (maximum close-fit)
- simple (practical and comfortable)
We have prepared a specific design, the best finishing and an anatomic cut. On your turn, you should choose the material which best fits to your habits, training methods and your own skills and experience.
UNLINED NEOPRENE:
Smoothskin / Open cell
SuperSmooth / Open Slide Cell (Freedown)
Smoothskin / Coating cell inside
(best-sellers for Freediving, very elastic, warmth, soft and aderent
like a second skin, but also very delicate against rips and tears)
LINED NEOPRENE:
Smoothskin / Superelastic lining
Smoothskin / Thermic Plush lining
Smoothskin / Nylon elastic
(very good alternative, easy to wear without lubes, more resistant
against tears, very stretch and comfortable)
SANDWICH:
Smoothskin / Nylon elastic in the middle / Open cell (or Smoothskin
inside) (neoprene very warmth, aderent to the body and more durable than
unlined rubber, but less elastic and more hard than others)
Special version:
Sharkskin/superstretch lining
MESH SKIN
For those seeking an alternative that is more resistant than the classic smooth, we recommend the new Mesh Skin, a rubberized material with a thinly knurled rhomboid design on the outer machined surface, which makes it more robust and resistant to cuts and abrasions.
This is ideal for fishing but is also successful in diving suits, where the combination of the highly elastic material and angular design provide strength, elasticity, hydrodynamics and unrivalled comfort.
SMOOTH AND LINING
This is an alternative special solution dedicated to everyone who loves the exclusive external smoothskin but needs a better strength against cuts and tears (very frequent on trousers).
If you don’t want to apply patches and special reinforcements which reduce freedom of movement, you can combine a jacket with smoothskin on the internal side (maximum elasticity) and a pair of trousers with the lining on the external surface (higher strength where you need it) which guarantees strength and softness at the same time.
You can choose the material of your trousers from a wide variety of solutions:
– Double lined (nylon/nylon)
– Double lined (nylon/thermal plush)
– Double lined (antitear elastic Kanoko/elastic lining)
– Double lined (antitear elastic Kanoko/thermal pile)
– Double lined (antitear elastic Kanoko/superstretch nylon)
– Single lined (elastic nylon/cell)
– Single lined (elastic nylon/coated cell)
– Single lined (superstretch nylon/Black Shadow coated cell)
– Single lined (elastic nylon/coated smoothskin)
– Single lined (antitear elastic Kanoko/cell)
– Superstretch (superelastic lining on both sides)
LINING ON THE EXTERNAL SURFACE OR DOUBLE LINED
Wetsuits made with external lining have always optimum characteristics. They are strong, warm and comfortable. We offer a wide variety of solutions, in thicknesses from 1,5 mm to 10 mm and many colours.
The top for strength remains the double lined, inside and outside, this suit fits to be robust and warm sacrificing high performance of hydrodynamics.

TYPES OF NEOPRENE
Elios Sub has selected different types of neoprene to recommend, based on needs and use, as well as different configurations of wetsuits for diving, giving full satisfaction to both the professional and the beginner.
Japanese neoprene
The best neoprenes are definitely Japanese, among which we mainly deal with:
- Yamamoto #45 top of the range product with great elasticity, slipperiness and comfort;
- NJN excellent neoprene, more resistant to compression and very elastic;
- Heiwa a level below the previous one, but also ensures good elasticity, comfort and durability;
- Daiwabo excellent stability for those who dive much deeper, the most resistant to compression.
Taiwanese Neoprene
Taiwanese neoprene is Elios’s most economic line of production.
These products are well suited to those venturing out for the first time and on a limited budget. The lower performance is actually due to a comparison with competition suits and they are recommendable for normal sports at low and medium depth.
Sheico for sure the most famous factory in the world for the good quality of the neoprene, with several solution of linings and colors;
Nam Liong new neoprene factory, with special fabrics and material of the ultimate generation.
